SAN DIEGO- CTA Vice President Theresa Montaño and NEA Vice President Becky Pringle led a group of volunteer readers at Carson Elementary School in San Diego as part of NEA’s 2016 Read Across America campaign. Joined by San Diego Education Association President Lindsay Burningham, NEA and CTA Board Members Bill Freeman and Barbara Dawson, the volunteers included local police officers and author Eric Gonzalez who read his book Conchita y Rosita in Spanish in two first grade classrooms.
Volunteers began the day at Balboa Elementary, then traveled to Carson Elementary for a second round of reading. The day ended with a trip to the San Diego Humane Society where 200 Rolando Elementary School students met with animal docents and learned about proper pet care. Students ended their day by taking the Readers Pledge to continue their journey with new books and new adventures!
